Meet Chelsea

It’s been in the works for a while, but I really didn’t appreciate or understand my passion for helping other Moms in photography until now.

This past Saturday, a group of 28 beautiful and passionate women gathered together at Heritage Chocolates for the first EVER Melissa Barrick Photography’s workshop: Photography for Moms! The workshop was announced in November, and sold out within 24 hours! Each woman came armed with their DSLR camera, cutest outfits and a heart ready to learn. We met for 3 hours that afternoon, and discussed things like camera mechanics, lighting and composition. The attendees had a little time to practice what they learned in class, but trying out new settings at different styled stations around the shop, or outside in historic Leonardtown Square. There was a gorgeous food display, by the unofficial extension of Scarborough Farm, for people to nosh on, then we dove right back into the content, learning about how to better wrangle our smartphone cameras.

We had two amazing (and very generous) giveaways from tcFashions Etsy Shop and Chesapeake Farmery! Have I mentioned how much I love supporting local, small businesses?? Each guest went home with a goodie bag filled with some sweet treats, generously sponsored by some other local businesses…and hopefully, a brain full of new information that will equip them to take better pictures at home!

About halfway through the presentation, I really understood several of the women, and learned their stories and appreciated where they were in their stage of life. Some had small kids, some had dogs! Others had kids in college, and husbands who also wanted to learn. Everyone was so eager to learn, and I am so thrilled to be able to share what I know and have learned with others!

Not to give it all away for Round 2 on April 22nd, but here are just a couple photographs from our beautiful afternoon together! Thank you to my talented friend and fellow photographer, Lindsay Edward of LuluEdward Photography for being there to capture such a special afternoon! Here are some of the local businesses that helped make this workshop a beautifully good time:
