When I first started this business over 6 years ago, my favorite thing in the world was to photograph newly engaged couples. Couples in love. Quiet couples. Couples who laughed. Couples who held hands and kissed. Couples in love. Life is so fresh and it’s just beginning. Their whole lives were ahead of them and they faced those adventures and memories together. Those little moments of divine love together are their affection, and the photographs that were created? They were the Love Letters.

I’ve always loved Valentine’s Day ever since I can remember…even when I didn’t have a Valentine. I have always loved LOVE. It sounds so cliche, but it’s true. I’m a huge sucker for romantic stories, hearts racing, hand holding and old fashioned affection. I am textbook hopeless romantic (although not really hopeless, as I have my dear husband of almost 8 years!). The point is, my sweet friends, is that I love Valentine’s Day so much, that I want to give some amazingly in love and engaged couple a FREE Engagement session.

Yes, free.

Being in the wedding industry, I know that some couples choose not to have engagement pictures taken for one reason or another. Whatever the reason, they can miss the wonderful experience that documents this time in their lives. A time when they are planning and dreaming together. So, I’d really love to give this chance to an engaged couple.

Here’s the deal: One lucky couple will get a FREE 1-2 hour engagement session with yours truly. They’ll also receive a DVD of the edited, high-resolution, digital images inside a beautiful, little package with a couple extra, fun goodies.

How to Enter:

1) Visit and “Like” my Facebook page

2) Leave a comment on THIS blog post with brief details of your favorite and most inspiring love story (Romeo & Juliet, your parents, etc.)!

3) Follow me on Instagram, @sweetmelissa_b

*For an extra entry, ONCE A DAY, you can repeat #4 and tag 3 friends!

Contest Rules: Contest begins TONIGHT and ends at 10:00pm Friday February 13th. The one lucky couple who won will be announced on Saturday February 14th at 10:00am!

I hope this is where I leave a comment!

A love story that is inspiring to my fiancé and I both is the story of Ali and Noah in the notebook! Though their story was not perfect and they had obstacles, the power of love had brought them back together again. The love between them continued to show through Noah’s attentiveness to his love and wanting her to remember their story. That is the kind of love that is inspirational.

My favorite and most inspiring love story is obviously my own. When my fiancé and I met in college it truly was love at first sight. Unfortunately we had to keep our relationship a secret due to certain circumstances. After about two months of our undercover operation we decided that we were too in love not to let everyone know. It was hard because we lost friends, but we both knew our connection was unlike anything we had ever felt before.

This month marks our 6 year anniversary. Every day I am thankful that we stuck it out and believed in our love. He keeps me grounded, makes me laugh and STILL, to this day, gives me butterflies when we kiss. I can’t wait to become his wife!

No matter how cliche this may sound, my favorite and most inspiring love story is my own. My fiancé and I were not high school sweethearts. We were not our first love. We both endured past pain, endless tears, and broken hearts — we thought we once found ‘the one’ yet watched it slip away without reason. Sometimes the road to love isn’t always a fairytale. It’s not always perfect. But it’s perfect … for us. It teaches us just what we need to know in order to prepare us. Despite our inability to understand ‘why’, we never stopped believing in love. And for this, I am so fondly inspired.

My favorite and most inspiring love story is the story of Jack, my fiancé, and I. Our love story is as classic as it is inspiring- high school sweethearts, first loves, and best friends.

We first met during confirmation at our local church. We were in the sixth grade and although I always thought he never noticed me, I couldn’t help but notice him with his striking blue eyes and blonde hair. We did not meet again until high school when we had a few classes together our freshman year. We began dating during our junior year after at least one year of both of us being too shy to even speak to one another! From then on we were inseparable and have become the best of friends. During college we began a company together entertaining children for birthdays and other special events.

Our relationship has truly grown into something so special and after almost 9 years of dating Jack proposed to me this past January on vacation with my family. We would absolutely LOVE an engagement session with MB to capture our happiness at this stage in our relationship and our lives.

While I adore my own love story, the one that truly comes to mind as loving and inspiring is that of my grandparents. At the age of 16, my grandfather, born in Italy, traveled by boat, by himself, to America to make money to provide for his family back in Italy. He taught himself how to speak English, and quickly became a hardworking, tile setter in Washington DC. He met my grandmother a few years later and the rest is truly history. I have grown up watching them love each other through everything–their grandchildren, Cancer, recovering from cancer, and more. They will soon witness my brothers wedding and my own wedding. I have watched how they take care of each other, in their own way and I am truly grateful for them both. The love they share for one another has shown me what a lifetime of love really means, and for that, I am thankful.

My love story is my favorite and most inspiring story. I met my fiancé, Matthew, 3 1/2 years ago at a mutual friend’s football party. We both are career firefighters and knew of each other, but had never actually met one another until then. Shortly after meeting one another at the party, we became best friends. Matt became my rock; I could rely on him no matter what. If I needed guy advice, I would call him. If I needed advice about work, I would call him. If I needed to gossip with someone, he was the one I called. If I needed to vent to someone, you guessed it, I would call him. He would call me for the same reasons. I tried to set him up with a few girls that I knew and he would even send me pictures of girls that he met, to see if I approved. Little did we both know, that what we were looking for all along, was each other. I was transferred to the same station that Matt was assigned too. He worked the shift before me. We would leave each other funny notes in the nightstand that we shared. Those funny notes turned into love notes…and something that we both looked forward to receiving during our 24 hour shifts. Sometimes, that was the only thing that could get me through a long 24 hour shift. After about a year of being best friends, Matthew officially asked me to be his girlfriend. We have both grown so much since the first time we met. I fall more and more in love with him every single day…even on days where he aggravates me to no end.

On New Years Day of this year, at the Winter Classic, Matthew got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Before he could even finish his question, I was answering “yes”. Matthew and I will become one in front of our family and friends this November at Camden Yards.

The story begins with two sophomore high school students. The night of our homecoming football game, this guy comes up to my group of friends and immediately starts looking in my direction. He came up to me and scrambled to find words. After stuttering a little, he finally was able to spit out, “Hello, my name is Ryan.” We exchanged hellos and some simple small talk when he started to say, “You have the most amazing eyes I have ever seen!” I blushed until my face turned as red as a strawberry. As we kind of ventured away from our group of friends, we started to walk into the football stadium together. Out of nowhere, we both decided to hold hands. We looked at each other and everything just felt right. In the bleachers, we decided to sit together and all we did was talk. Ryan brought up the homecoming dance and asked if I was going with anyone. I swear that his face lit up the whole stadium when I told him that I was just going with a group of friends! He told me that he wasn’t planning on going, but after he told me that, he scrambled around the entire school to find someone that wasn’t going to use their ticket. He came back flaunting his ticket and asked if we could meet up at the dance! I looked at him, and told him that how he asked might have been the crappiest way I have ever been asked to a dance. But I said yes! I got to the dance and he was waiting there holding a beautiful yellow corsage! It felt like a true fairytale! As soon as I got up to him, a slow song started to play. The song was “Close Your Eyes” by Michael Buble. We danced the whole entire song with butterflies floating around in my stomach. I looked up at him and at the same time he looked at me. For a brief moment, we started into each others eyes, and then we kissed for the very first time! After our first kiss, he looked at me and said, “I would be honored to call you my girlfriend!” I just looked at him and smiled. Again, I blushed so bad and nearly screamed yes! He picked me up and swung me around and lowered me and kissed me again.
After two weeks of dating, he took me out to dinner. He wanted to wait until we were alone. Once we got to that point, he looked at me, grabbed my hands, and told me that he loved me for the very first time! Ryan was the first love of my life! And I don’t see that ever changing!
Fast forwarding five years to the day of his proposal, it was Christmas day! I got to his house and walked up the stairs to say good-morning to everyone. Ryan got up and showed me to my seat. He looked at me and said, “There is a present for you under the tree, why don’t you go ahead and open it.” I got up to get the tree to get the present from Ryan, turned around, and he was already on one knee! He said, “Jennifer Renee Molitor, I have loved you since the first day I met you at the homecoming football game. I have watched you become a beautiful young woman who is determined to get the most out of life. I want to watch you grow into this new part of our life not only as my wife, but as the mother of my children. I want to grow old with you and watch the sunset together from our own front porch. Jenny, will you do me the honor of changing my life forever by becoming the best thing that has and will ever happen to me?” I screamed and cried like a little school girl, “YES!!”
There is just one more thing that we have yet to do to go from being high school sweethearts to becoming husband and wife, and that is to get married!
This story inspires not only me, but my friends and family when I tell it to them. Yes, we have our problems, but it’s what makes us stronger!

My favorite love story is, of course, my own. My fiancé and I met on the first day of middle school. He was the cute, freckled-faced, shy kid with a bowl cut and I was the awkward 12-year-old girl trying to make new friends in a new school. While he was in all honors classes, I was busy keeping up with the gossip and trying to be popular. We ended up going to different high schools, where we both had a couple long term relationships that didn’t work out (blessings in disguise). After high school, I went to college and he followed his dreams and became a DC Firefighter.

Exactly 3 years ago next week, on a cold night at the infamous Greene Turtle in La Plata, across from my apartment, my friend Laura and I were having a few drinks. She looked over and said, “Oh my, is that Willie Beattie?! He filled out nicely since middle school. *wink wink*” I looked over at the same time he looked at me. I thought to myself, ‘Dang. Yes.. yes he did!’ 😉 He walked over and said “Hi, do you remember me?”, I said, “Yes I do!”, and we spent the rest of the night talking. He was still the sweet, adorable guy I remembered from middle school. After a while, I asked him who he was there with. He responded, “I was with a bunch of my friends, but they left a long time ago.” I hadn’t even noticed that the bar was about to close!

He took me on our first date the following weekend, and on Easter he told me loved me and asked me to be his girlfriend. Six months later, I had major surgery, and he was there every step of the way. He even took off a month from work to stay home and take care of me. I knew then, he was the one.

This past November he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife at my 30th birthday party, in front of all of my family and close friends. It was absolutely perfect. I cannot wait to start our lives together as husband and wife. <3

    Hi Melissa,

I’m so glad I came across your special Valentine’s Day Engagement Session Giveaway!

There are a few beautiful love stories that first came to my mind, such as my grandparents and one of my good friends’ parents, but my own love story is my absolute favorite. It is very near and dear to my heart. 🙂 My fiancé, Mat, and I met during our freshman year in high school while in our English class. He sat in front of me and would tease me about how quiet I was, but I would just respond by saying how loud he was! We quickly became great friends and began dating our junior year. I knew from the very beginning that he was someone special! We definitely have had our ups and downs being young and in love, but we have gotten through the tough times by trusting each other. We have grown so much over the last 6 years together and I’m so proud of him for the man he strives to be. I’m so thankful God gave me a best friend like him to lean on, love, and laugh with.

Sophomore year in high school I invited Mat and a couple of other friends to go on a ski trip with my youth group at church. We had such a fun time that skiing/snowboarding has become an annual mini-getaway for us. In January 2014, Mat planned a ski trip to Seven Springs for us to go with my family and his. I was very excited but didn’t think anything of it (and definitely didn’t catch onto any of the many clues… like him using the bathroom excessively, or taking me back to the exact same ski resort we first went to and inviting both families). Fast forward to day two of the trip, it was around 8:30pm, we all agreed we would take one more ski down the mountain and go in for the night because it was snowing very hard and we were all freezing. I finally get down the mountain and all I hear is people screaming my name and then I get closer and see Mat down on one knee with a big red banner behind him reading, “Kaitlin, Will You Marry Me?” I remember being so shocked (and frozen) that I barely remember much else!! Needless to say, I said yes and we headed in for pictures and hot chocolate. I think back on this special night and smile just as much now as when Mat first proposed to me.

Mat and I would be so grateful for the opportunity to have an engagement session with MB Photography to capture our love story.

True love comes in many different guises, A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton is the love story that inspires us. It’s a fierce Dinosaur trapped inside his cage of ice but he was happy in there. Then along came the Lovely Other Dinosaur and melted the Dinosaur’s cage with kind words and loving thoughts. Even though they’re personalities were different they united and grew old together. The story is perfect on what it means to be in a relationship and love each other.
