Frequently Asked Questions
Weddings

How do I hire you as our wedding photographer?
I’m so happy you asked! Please use the Contact Me form or e-mail me directly (melissaBphoto@gmail.com). Please send me your wedding date so I can let you know if it’s available. From there, we’ll set up an initial meeting so I can meet you and share package information, as well as show you album and print samples. We’ll chat and drink some good coffee and get to know each other before we set anything in stone. Be prepared though: I will ask you about the proposal and I may or may not cry. Just sayin.’

Do you travel for weddings?
Have passport – will travel! I love to travel and am greatly inspired when I see new places. Please contact me for more information. We can discuss details and I will develop a custom wedding travel quote just for you.

What kind of equipment do you use?
I have a Canon 5D Mark III (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera and a variety of lenses to suit various situations. I use an on-camera flash for certain indoor situations. I also have back-up gear in case of emergencies.

How much time should I leave for pictures on my wedding day?
Your wedding day is a huge whirlwind and everything will go by so quickly! I want you to enjoy every second of it without feeling rushed. When I show up for pictures, I will spend time with the bride and groom individually, taking their portraits and respective bridal party shots. I recommend to all my wedding clients to do a “First Look” before the ceremony. This allows ample time before the ceremony to take most of your pictures together so you don’t leave your guests waiting too long before the reception. After the ceremony, formal family shots take about 20 minutes, as do posed Bridal Party pictures (depending on the size). Don’t forget! This is one of the most important days of your life, so it’s important to leave as much room as you can for pictures!

Can I put my wedding pictures on Facebook or Twitter?
Yes! That’s all part of the fun to show your friends! I just ask that when you do post them publicly that you include a link to my website below the image. Also, please do not “cut and paste” the images from my blog or your gallery. You will receive a CD of the high-resolution images, which will be the best quality for printing and posting online.

Do you offer any other services for my wedding pictures?
Most definitely! I offer prints in various sizes, flip books and canvas wraps from a Professional Photo Lab. I also offer Wedding albums and photo guest books, which I custom design myself. Please e-mail me for pricing information on these items. I also recommend Save-the-Dates and Wedding Invitations through the most fabulous paper company, Minted.com. They have the cutest designs for lots of wedding and party occasions!

Portrait Sessions

How do I book a date with you?
Please use the “Contact Me” Page or send me an e-mail directly with a list of dates and what kind of portrait session you’d like to book. Once I receive your e-mail, I will respond within 24 hours to set something up. Once the date is picked, you’ll sign my contract and pay the session fee to officially book. Easy as pie!

What should I wear?
Just be yourself! I love clients who put lots of thought into what they’ll wear to their shoot. The details and accessories are wonderful, but aren’t always necessary. Wear what you’ll be comfortable in and consider the season in which your pictures will be taken. I like to stay away from the “matchy -matchy” outfits. Instead coordinate outfits by using a color palette. I can work with you to stylize your shoot and incorporate outfits and any props you may want to use.

What happens if it rains?
Since I’m primarily a natural light photographer, rain or any kind of inclement weather is not ideal. I’ll keep an eye on the weather a few days before your shoot, and if it looks like the weather is going to rain on our parade, we’ll just re-schedule your date.

How far will you travel?
Good news: I love to travel. Love it. I’ll pretty much go anywhere you ask me to. Contact me for mileage rates, and if you want me to come somewhere further than driving distance – sign me up! And don’t forget to contact me to inquire about travel arrangements.

What’s a typical Photo Session like?
Depending on your location, we’ll do some walking around to get some variety in your shots. Don’t fret – there are no marathons involved! I love it when people are brave to try something crazy and fun! I may or may not have you laying down in tall grass, climbing trees, jumping, standing in traffic, or showing off some PDA. Creativity is sometimes at its best when it’s spur of the moment. Sometimes, those shots turn out to be my favorites
